* “don’t vote” indicates that either a bad candidate is running unopposed or all candidates in the race are so terrible there’s no one worth voting for. I generally advocate for mitigating harm and voting for a bad Democrat when they’re running against a Republican. However, since climate change is an existential threat, where an anti-environment Democrat is running against an anti-environment Republican in the state legislature, I said “don’t vote.” Democrats have a supermajority in the California state legislature that they do little with. The party should run pro-environment candidates in order to earn your vote. Remember: Your vote is meaningful, and there’s power in withholding it.
